Thursday at lunch, the HRVHS Model United Nations club met for the first time in Dave Case’s room. The 30 or so students discussed what model UN is, and chose the countries that they wish to represent. According to Wikipedia, “ Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and academic competition in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations.”
Club president Lauren Robinson says of Model UN, “ world current events is something I’ve been interested in for quite a while and, not going to lie, I actually got the idea for the club from Parks and Recreation. I thought it would be a really cool club to have at our school because so many kids are aware of what’s going on in the world today. I’m really looking forward to working with people who as interested in this sort of thing as I am and I’m super excited because the club just started and we already have over 40 people involved.” The club adviser is Mr. Case and the club meets twice a month on Thursdays. Contact Lauren Robinson if interested in joining, there are still 100-something countries left! Club meeting Wednesday the 18th at lunch.
