HRVHS Wrestling Team Heads to Districts

Written By: Sahara Stevens, Talon Staff Reporter.

As the winter sports season comes to an end, the Hood River Valley High School Wrestling Team is going out with a bang. On Friday, February 19th, and Saturday, February 20th, HRVHS Wrestling is taking a trip to Mountain View High School for the Districts Tournament. The tournament is to find out which wrestlers will qualify for the State Tournament.

Sam Morley, sophomore, spills the details as to what happens, “At the start you weigh in to find out what weight class you’re in (Light, medium, and heavy weight). Then the coaches set up sixteen-man brackets and then matches take place on the mats. From there on, the lowest weight classes wrestle first and then move up to the heavy weight and wrestle up to first place.”

With Districts being so close and an important event to qualify for state, the team has been preparing every day for the past few weeks. Justin Wilson, junior, shares, “I feel good about districts. We have been preparing by having an extra practice every morning. During that morning practice, we run to keep our stamina up.”

The wrestlers have been doing an extraordinary job throughout this 2015-2016 season. “I am also feeling good about districts. So far, the season is going really well. We have lost a lot of the team throughout the season, but overall it has been great.” states, Jason Shaner, a junior.

Head on out to Mountain View High School this Friday and Saturday to support your fellow Eagles. The tournament time is still to be determined, but make sure to check the Hood River Valley High School Calendar for more information.
