Hrv Eagle’s boys XC placed 4th and girls placed 11th at the OSAA Oregon XC State Championships in Eugene on Saturday. This was after placing 8th for boys as well as
girls last year. Rain and wind swept the course leaving it to soak, Hrv was prepared, having trained in the elements the entire season. The course began on Lane Community College’s soccer field, led up a steep climb to a raised area above the track, around the parking lots and into a short forest clearing, continuing around the soccer field and around two irrigation ponds, leading back to the hill for a second lap, the finish was a 300m track surge.
Confident and determined were two words that described the team. In an interview with senior captain Quinn Fetkenhour, he stated, “We gave it all we had, and that was just enough.” Even though the boys will lose their top two seniors and the girls lose their three seniors, both teams aim to place at state again next year. Hrv XC’s final meet will be in Boise, Idaho for Nike Cross Nationals.
