Could you bare to go one day without shoes? Now until May 21st, Toms will be giving one pair of their signature shoes to a child in need for every picture of bare feet posted on Instagarm with the hashtag #withoutshoes.
TOMS is best known for their One for One business model. A customer buys a pair of shoes, and TOMS gives a pair to a child in need. One Day Without Shoes is a tradition that was started eight years ago to celebrate the birth of the company and raise awareness of child health and education.
As reported but TOMS Founder Blake Mycoskie, this year’s campaign is different from its precursors. “We’re extending the timeframe to build awareness and anticipation, but most importantly, so that more people can participate in an effort to give more,” Mycoskie stated to PRNewswire. “The best part is that even if someone is not a TOMS customer, he or she can simply take a photo and post #withoutshoes to make sure a child in need somewhere in the world will get a new pair.”
Because the company anticipates a massive amount of support, TOMS had to put a cap on the campaign. They hope to donate a maximum of one million pairs of shoes to children in need, allowing one picture of bare feet per person.
If you can’t bare to go barefoot for the day, but would still like to give, kick off your shoes, snap a picture, hash tag it on Instagram, and tell your friends to do the same.
