For the first time, HRVHS is hosting the districts wrestling meet. The meet is taking place on Friday February 13 and Saturday February 14 at 2 P.M. and 10 A.M. respectively. As is customary in districts, all nine schools in our district will send two wrestlers per weight class to the tournament to make an 18 person bracket in each class. From there, the top four competitors from each of the fourteen classes moves on to compete at state against the four other districts of state.
Last year in districts, HRV finished at second and sent 13 wrestlers to state. Senior wrestler and returning districts competitor Steven Swafford is looking forward to wrestling back to the state tournament and going further than ever. “I hope to make it first or second in districts but my ultimate goal is the state title.” Swafford said. “We’re proud of our efforts last year.” Says wrestling coach Trent Kroll. So far, the wrestling team is going 16-13 and Kroll is extremely optimistic for their chances at the tournament. “We’re third in our region but we are going to have a phenomenal tournament and pass those two.”
