HRV introduces gender neutral bathroom

Due to popular request, HRV has added its first gender-neutral bathroom to the building. Located in the C hall, the small, one-person room was once the men’s staff-only bathroom while the women’s staff bathroom is now a private restroom used for special nursing requests.

The idea for a gender neutral bathroom was initially introduced to HRV by the student run Gay Straight Alliance Club, and was later officially added by request of Principal Rich Polkinghorn to demonstrate tolerance and provide all genders with an environment in which people feel comfortable and not forced into deciding which bathroom to enter. GSA member Olivia Acosta states that, “the gender neutral bathroom is a good solution to a problem that people like to ignore.”

HRV and GSA are constantly looking to further expand its reach on cultural and gender acceptance.
