This week’s Athlete of The Gorge is Savannah Boersma. She is a senior and kiter chick. Savannah has been kiteboarding since she was 12 and was taught by her dad. Ever since, she has been kiting as much as she can. If she’s not kiting the Columbia River, she’s either chasing the wind down in Mexico or Hawaii. Boersma as achieved many great things kiting, from major kiteboarding sponsors, to awards, and even friendships all over the world.
Boersma competes in the women’s elite heats against professional kiteboarders from all over the world. She has gotten third place in Kiteboard for Cancer two years in a row, third place in Bridge of the Gods in 2014, and second place last year in Bridge of the Gods. She thanks her sponsors, Naish Kite and RND Brunotti. Boersma is graduating a semester early and planning on traveling and competing internationally. She isn’t sure about her first stop, but she either wants to go to Hawaii, or her place of birth, South Africa.
