On Friday night, the Eagle football team traveled two and a half hours to face off against the Redmond Panthers of the Intermountain Conference. Redmond had the edge with home field advantage and came away with a 51-8 win over the Eagles. Senior Tyrone Stintzi scored the Eagles’ only touchdown, thrown by junior quarterback Morgan Williams.
The boys soccer team came out on top when they faced the Woodburn Bulldogs last Tuesday. Late in the second half, senior Andres Baeza scored from within eight yards sending Woodburn home empty-handed. LaSalle College Preparatory School of Milwaukie traveled to Westside Elementary on Thursday to take on the Eagles. Coach Jaime Rivera experimented with a new starting lineup that we didn’t see during Tuesday’s win. A hard fought game ended in a scoreless 0-0 tie.
Girls soccer started this week’s series of games against Liberty High out of Hillsboro. The game ended in a 1-1 tie for both the sides and the girls soccer team prepared themselves for their next game at Sandy. The Sandy Pioneers beat coach Kevin Haspela’s side 1-0.
The volleyball team started the week on a high note with a 3-1 win over the Hermiston Bulldogs to start Columbia River Conference play. On Thursday the girls headed east to play against the rival Riverhawks of The Dalles. The Eagles couldn’t take home the win against the 3rd in state ranked Riverhawks. Saturday afternoon the volleyball team participated in a weekend tourney at Parkrose High School. The first game played was against Woodburn and they won the game 2-1. Immediately following the win they faced The Dalles Riverhawks once again and were beat 2-0. Luckily, Hood River plays the Riverhawks two more times this season to retaliate.
Portland Meadows Race Track hosted the Nike Portland XC meet which showcases top cross country runners from California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The boys side represented Hood River well by taking the first place spot in the Division 1 classification. Senior Justin Crosswhite had a notable performance when he took third in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:59. Quinn Fetkenhour, also a senior, and Junior Jesse Wiley both ranked top 10 with identical 16:25 times in the 5,000 meter run. The girls team took ninth place in the Division 2 classification. One top 10 performance came out of the girls team. Junior Daisy Dolan came in eighth place in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:50.
