HRV will be hosting its annual blood drive on April 8th from 9:00am – 2:30pm. All of the donated blood will go to the Red Cross. One pint of blood has the ability to save three lives. Signups started on March 31st, and will continue until April 7th. Participants must be at least 16 yrs. old with a signed permission slip. Participants older than 16 do not need a permission slip. Signups are at lunch in the commons.
“Make sure you get a good night’s sleep and eat an iron rich breakfast and lunch before getting your blood drawn.” Advises Niko Yasui.
Having a lack of iron in your blood causes anemia. If you go to give blood and are anemic, you will be turned away. Drinking a glass of water 10-15 minutes before getting blood drawn may reduce the chance of dizziness or becoming light-headed.
Afterwards, donors are advised to take about 15 minutes to recover and eat a snack. Drinking water is also important so participants stay hydrated. Take this chance and save a life. Donate and make a difference.
